Ottawa and the 1000 islands

Day 1: We travel through New York state to the popular 1000 Islands region, known as the “Garden of the Great Spirit”. We arrive in time to tour a local winery and sample their wine. Dinner is included at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 2: We meet our guide and begin our exploration of the world famous 1000 Islands. We will view the stunning shoreline dotted with historic lighthouses, summer mansions and marinas. We then enjoy a luncheon cruise serving hot and cold foods as we travel through the waters of both Canada and the USA. While on tour we visit Boldt Castle, built at the turn of the century by George Boldt, millionaire proprietor of the world-famous Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. Built to replicate a full-sized Rhineland castle, the structure rises an impressive six stories and is perched on this “water access” – only stunning island. Dinner is included tonight (B,L,D)
Day 3: We meet our local guide and tour Canada’s capital city, Ottawa. We visit Parliament Hill, a site of architectural beauty, historical significance and federal decision making. Next, we will visit Rideau Hall, the Governor General’s official residence. Enjoy touring the historic building and beautiful grounds. Our next stop will be at the Royal Mounted Canadian Police Stables, home of the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride. Meet the horses and riders, walk through the stables, experience the visitors center and browse the Mountie Shop. In the afternoon, experience the sights, sounds and festivities at the Canadian Tulip Festival. We will partake in the Tulip Legacy Walking tour to learn about the the incredible heritage of the Festival. You will have the evening on your own to explore the beautiful city and get dinner on your own. ( B)
Day 4: We meet our local guide for another exciting day in Ottawa. The day will be filled with various Tulip Festival events. Visit the Gatineau Park treasure, the Mackenzie King Estate. This country estate belonged to Canada’s 10th and longest serving Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King. Tour the cottages, meander through the gardens or enjoy a cup of tea in the tearoom. Next visit the Canadian Museum of History. Explore 1000 years of Canadian history. This afternoon, enjoy a relaxing cruise along the Rideau Canal with beautiful city views. Dinner will be included tonight. (B,D)
Day 5: We say goodbye to our neighbors to the north and begin our journey home filled with memories of Ottawa and the beautiful 1000 Islands. We return him early evening. (B)
