Day 1: The spring is a perfect time to travel to the South. The weather is great and the crowds are small as we journey to some of the finest destinations and resort areas in the southeastern United States. We travel to the Myrtle Beach area, where we enjoy a fabulous meal to end our day. (D)
Day 2: We spend the day in lovely Myrtle Beach. We tour Brookgreen Gardens this morning. We return to our hotel and enjoy a leisurely afternoon at the beach or visit Broadway on the Beach, where you can enjoy shopping and luncheon your own. Following dinner, we stroll to the Alabama Theatre to enjoy a fabulous show. (B, D)
Day 3: We depart Myrtle Beach and travel to the charming city of Charleston. We include a carriage tour that allows a close-up view of the beautiful homes and gardens of Charleston. We include a luncheon before we enjoy a relaxing cruise of scenic Charleston Harbor that will also include a visit to historic Fort Sumter, the site of the first shots that started America’s Civil War. Day 4: This morning we tour the lovely Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. The estate, dating back to 1676, has a 50-acre garden with hundreds of seasonal plants and flowers. We depart Charleston and travel to Beaufort, the second oldest town in the state. Here we relax aboard a carriage tour of this picturesque old port town, retaining much of the atmosphere of an earlier era. Lunch will also be included during our visit to Beaufort. We continue to Savannah and enjoy a delicious dinner at one of their popular restaurants. (B, L, D)
Day 5: We learn about Savannah on a guided tour, featuring one of our country’s most gracious cities. Savannah’s history is eloquently spoken in its mansions, exquisite iron works and ancient cobblestones. Lunch will be a treat at a popular Savannah restaurant. After a short period of free time, we must say good-bye to Savannah and travel to Lumberton. (L)
Day 6: Smooth interstate highways will return us home from our southern sojourn late afternoon. (B)
